PEG-10 Lauryl Ether
Pharcos L 10
Also known as: Polyoxyethylene 10 Lauryl Ether | Macrogol Lauryl Ether 10
Pharcos L 10 (HLB ~14.0) represents the shift from pure detergency into the realm of solubilization. It is fully soluble in cold water and provides excellent degreasing power. In cosmetics, it is used to pull fragrance oils into clear shampoos and shower gels. In the textile industry, it is a highly valued 'dye leveling agent', ensuring uniform distribution of color across fabric vats.

How It Works
As an essential oil solubilizer, the 10-mole PEG chain is massive compared to the C12 core. When grouped together in water, these molecules form exceptionally large, robust spherical micelles. These large micellar 'pockets' have high capacity for trapping non-polar fragrance oils or heavy botanical extracts inside them, burying them completely within a hydrophilic shell, maintaining crystal clarity in the bulk liquid.
In textile dyeing, L-10 acts by mildly 'retarding' the uptake of dye. It temporarily binds to the fabric fibers, forcing the dye molecules to compete for attachment sites. This slows the dyeing process down just enough to prevent dark 'blotches' or uneven coloration.

Common questions about PEG-10 Lauryl Ether
Laureth-10 provides significantly more foam and cleansing power than Polysorbate 20. If formulating a foaming face wash with high fragrance load, L-10 serves dual purposes (cleansing + solubilizing). If formulating a leave-on skin toner where foam is undesirable, Polysorbate 20 is preferred.
