PEG-200 Castor Oil
Pharcos CE 200
Also known as: Polyoxyl 200 Castor Oil | Castor Oil Ethoxylate 200 | Polyoxyethylene 200 Castor Oil
Pharcos CE 200 represents the extreme limit of practical castor ethoxylation (HLB ~18.5). Exiting the realm of traditional surfactants, this incredibly dense, hard waxy solid is an industrial powerhouse used to impart physical structure. It serves as a totally water-soluble lubricant and high-temperature binder in the technical ceramics and flooring tile industries. It also acts as an anti-static agent in bulk detergent powders due to its intense moisture retention capabilities.

How It Works
With 200 moles of ethylene oxide, the molecule acts essentially as a massive, customized polyethylene glycol chain with a localized lipid anchor.
In technical ceramics molding, dry clay and metallic powders must be pressed into shapes under immense tonnage. CE 200 is mixed in as a dry binder. As the press closes, the friction heat momentarily melts the CE 200, allowing the massive PEG chains to coat the powder particles perfectly and slide past one another (internal lubrication). When the ceramic part is fired in the kiln, the CE 200 vaporizes completely without leaving conductive carbon ash behind, resulting in a flawless, void-free ceramic body.

Common questions about PEG-200 Castor Oil
The presence of the castor oil (triricinolein) core provides superior boundary layer lubrication compared to straight PEG. The molecule adheres far better to the metallic/ceramic particles while still offering the clean burn-out of a high-MW PEG.
Rarely. While completely safe and non-toxic, its massive molecular weight makes it too heavy and sticky for elegant cosmetic emulsion feel.
