PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil
Pharcos HCO 60
Also known as: Polyoxyethylene 60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil', 'Cremophor RH 60 Equivalent
Pharcos HCO 60 provides noticeably higher solubilizing power (HLB ~15-17) than the standard HCO 40. Due to its elevated ethoxylation, it is physically harder (typically a soft semi-solid) and far more hydrophilic. It is typically deployed as a 'problem solver' when standard solubilizers fail to incorporate heavy, highly uncooperative essential oils, intense silicone fluids, or complex agrochemical pesticide concoctions.

How It Works
The addition of 20 extra moles of ethylene oxide creates a significantly thicker, more robust hydrophilic shell around the micelle compared to HCO 40.
In aerosol formulations (like sprayable sunscreens or dry shampoos), stability is frequently disrupted by the highly non-polar isobutane/propane propellants. The massive hydration shroud provided by the PEG-60 tails fiercely resists the phase-separating pressure of the propellant gas. This maintains a perfectly homogeneous microemulsion inside the pressurized can, ensuring the product sprays evenly without spluttering or separating over time.

Common questions about PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil
HCO 60 is a harder wax. When formulated at high concentrations into skin toners or water-based serums, it can leave a slightly 'tacky' or sticky film on the skin as it dries. HCO 40 is preferred for lightness on the skin, while HCO 60 is used for sheer heavy-lifting solubilization power.
