PEG-80 Hydrogenated Castor Oil
Pharcos HCO 80
Also known as: Polyoxyethylene 80 Hydrogenated Castor Oil | Maximum Capacity Solubilizer
Pharcos HCO 80 is the most ethoxylated variant of our hydrogenated castor suite (HLB > 18.0). Because of the massive polymer chains, it is typically supplied as hard crystalline flakes. It serves a dual purpose: It is a phenomenal structural matrix builder for casting clear, solid stick formulations (like antiperspirants or solid colognes) and acts as an aggressive grease-cutter in heavy industrial hard-surface cleaners.

How It Works
In solid cosmetic applications (like a stick deodorant), the HCO 80 is melted entirely with the active ingredients and glycols. As the mixture cools in the mold, the massive PEG-80 chains crystallize rapidly, locking the active ingredients and fragrance oils into an incredibly dense, solid matrix. This matrix remains totally solid at body temperature but solubilizes instantaneously (via its extremely high HLB) the moment it contacts the slight moisture of the skin, depositing the active cleanly without feeling greasy or heavy.
In industrial degreasing, the huge hydrophilic mass rips hydrophobic grease deposits straight off metal surfaces and suspends them totally in the wash water to prevent re-deposition.
Technical Information
Common questions about PEG-80 Hydrogenated Castor Oil
The castor oil core (hydroxystearate) has a different crystalline geometry than straight Cetostearyl alcohol. HCO 80 often yields a more transparent, less opaque solid stick, which is aesthetically required in premium clear deodorants.
